Seattle Music Commission
A Letter from Music Commission Chair, Ben London
As Chair of the inaugural Seattle Music Commission, it is my honor to welcome you to the Seattle Music Commission’s new web page.
The SMC pledges to continue Seattle’s great musical tradition through concrete and impactful interactions with local government, communities and individuals. I feel a responsibility to the legacy left by such talents as Quincy Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Nirvana, Heart, Ernestine Anderson and many others who have enhanced our community with their music.
This Commission was established in June 2010 and is comprised of 21 members from our diverse and expansive music industry. Our three subcommittees (Youth and Community, Policy and Planning, Branding and Communications) are passionate and inspired and have begun carrying out their individual workplans. While working to uphold the City of Music Initiative’s mission to make this a City of Musicians, City of Live Music and a City of Music Business, the Commission wants to hear from you about what you and your community are doing to make Seattle the City of Music. We encourage you to contact us at SeattleMusicCommission@seattle.gov.
In addition to reviewing our workplan, I invite you to browse the entire City of Music website, get engaged with your local community, share your ideas, and observe our monthly meetings. We are proud to be serving you, the people who help make Seattle the City of Music.
Best,
Ben London, Chair
